Expanding impact in Rio de Janeiro waste cooperatives
The project encourages higher levels of recycling in the city through collaboration with nine waste cooperatives using the KOLEKT waste app, involving more than 300 informal waste workers.
Tropical Forests Mechanism
The Tropical Forests Mechanism (TFM) concept note outlines how nature finance at scale can guarantee the maintenance and enhancement of tropical forests worldwide. It complements the Brazilian government's Tropical Forests Forever Fund (TFFF), aimed at securing funding to protect rainforests in the Amazon region, Congo Basin, and Southeast Asia.
Supporting ‘cooperate to recycle’ in Rio de Janeiro
Over the next three years, BVRio will support the waste cooperative, ‘Coopama’, to implement an investment of $4 million Brazilian Reais to collect and sort recyclable solid waste from multiple facilities owned by the project’s funder. The overarching objective is to further develop the cooperative’s operations, raising their profile and financially benefiting its workers.

Digital Waste Africa
A study and pilot project to establish if a digital waste management solution could improve waste collection and recycling in Southern Africa, starting with Angola and Mozambique.
Carton Recycling Investment Programme
Used beverage cartons were the focus of this short pilot Circular Action Programme for Tetra Pak in Vietnam which aimed to recycle used beverage cartons recovered from the environment by informal waste pickers.
Circular Beach
Circular Beach sought to create a management model that can be replicated worldwide to reduce plastic consumption and waste generation in tourist areas.
Unlocking and leveraging low-emission development
BVRio acted as the implementing partner of the Government of Rondônia implementing instruments and management instances provided in the Climate Governance and Environmental Services Policy and the Jurisdictional Strategy and Socio-Environmental Safeguards Protocol for REDD+ projects.
Increasing Recycling in Rio de Janeiro
Delivered by Circular Action, the pilot project resulted in higher levels of recycling by households and businesses through collaboration with waste cooperatives using the KOLEKT waste app, and provided additional income to over 200 informal waste pickers.

To catalyse zero plastic waste leadership, the 3R Initiative (3RI) developed a market-based approach that aims to scale up collection and recycling activities, and increase accountability for plastic waste reduction efforts around the world.
Design and Sustainable Wood
The initiative took internationally renowned Brazilian designers directly into the heart of the Amazon to share knowledge and new techniques of timber design with community-led manufacturers to produce high value objects made with sustainable wood certified by FSC®.
